PIPELINE INDUCTION HEAT RULES THE WAVES

The dedicated pipelaying ship Seaway Polaris has been the recent “home” to two very special OMS Impact 200 metering units.
As part of the Acergy Greater Plutonia oil field project, some 120 kilometres off the Angolan coast, UK specialists Pipeline Induction Heat Limited were tasked with moulding in-situ pipe joints directly above sea level.
After in line welding and x-ray checking of the joints, the pipes were lowered further down the ship’s vertical derrick to the jointing platform.
Dispensing a compact polyurethane elastomer system from DOW Hyperlast the Impact 200 metering Units were specified with mass flow meters and closed loop output control to ensure the exacting quality standards for the joint were met.
The machines performed faultlessly and the joint integrity for both insulation and corrosion prevention were first class. Adhesion to the steel pipe joint and the polypropylene outer sheath were also excellent.
Now that this major project is completed these containerised machines have been returned back to their real “home” in Burnley, Lancashire ready for their next seaborne adventure.
